Veterinary Technician
Akron
Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center (AVREC) is regarded
by many as Northeast Ohio’s finest veterinary specialty hospital. AVREC
is designed to provide advanced surgical, medical, emergency and
critical care for dogs and cats. We work closely with general practice
veterinarians throughout Ohio and surrounding states to provide the
highest quality of specialized veterinary care 24 hours a day seven days
a week.
We at AVREC are currently in search of an experienced RVT for the
emergency department. This is a full-time position, working
four ten-hour shifts per week, after hours, weekends and holidays. A
shift premium is paid for working overnights.
Job Purpose:
To provide nursing care for hospitalized patients and outpatients,
communicate with clients, co-workers and veterinarians regarding patient
needs/status and document appropriately. Utilize full spectrum of
technical skills and training to improve patient outcome.
Duties:

Care for patients by utilizing keen observational skills,
venipuncture, general and advanced nursing including: EKG, blood
pressure, pulse oximetry, end tidal CO2 monitoring, radiographic
imaging and full in-house lab testing including coagulation,
hematology and chemistry monitoring.

Communicate
patient needs/status to veterinarian on-duty, co-workers and client
both verbally and with appropriate documentation.

CPR and post event nursing care.

Administers/maintains/monitors anesthesia utilizing tailored
anesthetic protocols and advanced monitoring equipment.

Clean, stock and maintain hospital to the highest standards.

Maintain licensure and knowledge with continuing education
opportunities including lectures and professional journals.

Enhance service reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing
new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to
job accomplishments.
Skills/Qualifications:
Must be a graduate of an accredited Veterinary Technology program, or
"grandfathered" Technician with current license. Must fulfill
continuing education requirements necessary to keep certification
current. Other qualifications include: Knowledge of Animal Behavior,
Animal Husbandry, Documentation Skills, Analyzing Information, Clinical
Skills, Creating a Safe and Effective Environment, Performing Diagnostic
Procedures, Use of Medical Technologies, Attention to Detail, Patience,
Verbal Communication.
